Case Description
My son lives with his mother in New Brunswick and I live in Alberta. He is almost 18 and his mother and I have not had a relationship since before he was born. I found out about him when he was approximately 1 year old and have been paying every month ever since. He recently moved in with my new family for a short period of time as he did not want to move to New Brunswick with his mother and her husband as they lost custody of the children they have together and my son wanted to remain with us. Typical teenage behavior ensued and due to a dislike for typical rules of the house let my son to fly back to his mother without our knowledge or consent or the chance to work things out. This action directly broke a condition of the joint custody agreement which had myself as the sole residence for my son. Our lawyer was contacted at the time with her renewed demands for child support. Our lawyer responded back with visitation suggestions as well as child support amendment requests and it's been in the hands of the lawyers ever since. I have now been subpoened to attend court in New Brunswick within the next couple of weeks. Our lawyer now seems disinterested or fails to recognize the seriousness of our situation. We did contact a lawyer in New Brunswick who also seemed disinterested except to say he's happily take our money in a fight he deemed a waste of time. I need advice from an interested lawyer in a hurry and feel panicky about the impending court date.
