employer stops benefit coverage for employee on LTD

Case Description
My wife worked for a resort company that sold time share units, she became gravely ill and subsequently went on LTD through Sun Life Ins, the company has twice changed benefit providers and now is saying they will discontinue these benefits because they have changed the way they do business, I don\'t think they are referring to the LTD part but rather the health benefits (prescriptions, life ins etc). On her original explanation of benefits it said \" while employee was on LTD their benefits would continue and premiums would bewaived. Can they now just stop these benefits , the prescript coverage is critical to her health. Do we have legal grounds to pursue this. I am on early retirement and do not have benefits either. My wife turned 60 in January this year. Please helpmeif you can.
