Case Description
I had a house fire in July. This fire resulted in a complete loss, my husband and 7 yr old son also perished in the fire, leaving me and my 11 yr old daughter on our own. My policy is a Guaranteed Replacement Cost policy, however they are saying they don't have to insure to code, only what I had. What I had was a 1850+ sq ft. Home (storey and half) with partially finished basement. Going rates vary from 165-190/ sq ft. being said to low ball it at 160 would be 196 000. They want to offer me the low estimate of 236 000 which would barley rebuild a 1300 sq ft home, and this estimate was obtained by them after the fact (Oct. 2)and is in no way even close to the other 2 estimates also obtained by them. The other 2 where submitted on an itemized comp. generated program, apparently developed by Insur. comp. to help Insur. comp. the 3rd was a bare 1 page vaige estimate.
