Case Description
Recently I had a serious accident in my work place in Richmond, BC. I was carrying garbage with a shovel and something came up directly to my left eye. The eye protection it was not mandatory. Due of this I lost the vision of that eye. It was 3 weeks ago, and I still cannot see with that eye. Doctors said I need a cornea transplantation, after of that we will know if the damage is permanent or not.
The accident was immediately reported with my supervisor, the safety officer and my employer.
It was my first job in Canada. I started working with that employer on June 1st, 2009.
I had my social insurance number and valid permit to work. I'm not canadian.
My employer paid me every 2 weeks, he asked me for my Name, phone and address before of my first check. After of that I received a check every 2 weeks. I have the stubs that he gave me. He was paying to me $10.50/hour. I was working as a labour full time (8 hours) Monday to Friday.
At the hospital I gave my employer's name, and contact information. He received the form 3 days after the accident. But he said in that form, that I was on contract. Not Full time worker. I never signed any contract with him. I was a normal worker, like everybody else. WCB is still collecting information about my case, but I would like to be prepared to any problem that I could have because of my employer version.
