Case Description
I was hired by a very prominent institution in Vancouver on June 4/09. They did not complete any necessary paperwork required for approving my work permit, but made me work for three weeks, telling me several times that the papers were being processed. When I raised the matter to HR, I was fired. Now, they are withholding my pay and compensation for relocating unless I sign a release freeing them of any responsibility by Nov 6. They refuse to acknowledge their fault even though I have emails proving this. This will affect all my future work permit/immigration applications and right now I am literally stranded in Vancouver with dwindling finances and am under severe stress, which has caused my health to suffer. I was also subject to discriminatory remarks and accused of causing trouble because I went to HR. I am able to provide a detailed time-line, and all the correspondence with them. The institution has been dragging this matter along, by delayed responses and I have been unable to do anything since June. I need help urgently, as I do not have much money left, and could be homeless in a month.
