Case Description
Purchased a house within the allowed area in Oshawa where our son is attending University. Prior to purchase did visit our lawyer in Toronto and understood as it was owner occupied there should not be a problem. Received a letter in October advising we had to obtain a rental license. November 12, 2009 submitted all the documents and paid for the inspectors to come to the house. There were a few minor items that they req'd to be ammended, i.e fire ext on every floor, electrical sticker on the elect box. Have the complete list. Week prior to Christmas Fire, Buiding, and electrical had all passed. Seven days later recieved a notification that our application has been advised. Us and the other 156 applicants I read about in the newspaper. The reason give, "The application reveals that the dwelling in not functioning as a single housekeeping establishment???? Nothing more. I am in need of a lawyer who knows about the bi-laws of Oshawa. I have a son who chose to attend that school rather than move out of Province, thus the reason the house was purchased.
