CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT IN ONTARIO
On Family Law for residents in Ontario
![]()
Child support is regarded as one of the fundamental elements to ensuring that children are properly cared for when parents separate. Public policy dictates that parents be responsible for financially supporting their children in order to limit the obligation on the government and in turn, the taxpayers.
The Family Responsibility Office is the branch of the Ontario government responsible for enforcing support orders. There are several enforcement mechanisms used by FRO to recover outstanding payments from child support orders including driver’s licence suspension, credit bureau reporting and garnishments. In certain cases where defaulting payors cannot be found, their photographs may be posted on Good Parents Pay in order to assist FRO in locating the payors.
